Why It’s Important To Invest In Photography +Videography For Your Wedding

Your wedding day is an incredibly intimate and special moment in time - capturing that moment so you can remember everything both big and small is so important! However, wedding planning often comes so much uncertainty - how much should we budget for the venue, dress, and cake? And one of the biggest questions: should we hire a professional photographer? What about videography? Do we need both?

The short answer is, yes! The only tangible thing that couples get to take away from their wedding day are their rings and the photos and videos captured from the event. That’s why couples very rarely regret making this investment. They are snapshots, frozen moments in time and magical memories that you get to keep forever.

As a wedding photographer, I get the absolute privilege of capturing beautiful moments for couples across Southern Ontario. I collaborate with the wonderful and super talented videographers Bonsai Creative, and together, we get to tell amazing wedding stories. If you are wondering if you should make the investment in photography and videography for your wedding day, keep reading. I’m excited to share with you what I’ve learned over the years!

Why You Should Invest In Professional Wedding Photography + Videography

1. Experience & Know-How

Professional photographers and videographers have the experience needed to perfectly capture every magical part of your wedding day. Yes, it’s totally true that everyone today has a camera on them at all times - so why not just ask a friend to take photos for you? Although some couples choose to go this route, unless your friend is a professional photographer, you won’t end up the high-quality pictures that a photographer will take for you.

Not only that, but when you work with a professional team, they have truly seen it all. They can help guide you through the day, from the quiet morning pre-wedding photos to the magical, high-energy end-of-night dances. They know how to ensure everyone looks their best in the pictures, and will also make sure that you get every picture you planned for.

Remember, most weddings have a photography schedule - the last thing a couple needs on their wedding day is trying to scramble to get every photo on the list. Working with the pros helps to really simplify your day.

2. Videography + Photography Captures Every Moment

The combination of both videography and photography means that you will get to perfectly capture every single moment from your wedding day. Wedding pictures are beautiful snapshots in time. Often, couples feel like their wedding day is a bit of a blur with so much going on! Photography allows you to easily recall memories from the whole day, even if you feel like it went by quicker than you ever imagined it would.

Videography is important too - it not only captures pictures, but audio too. You get to feel, hear, and see the emotion from the day, whether it’s from a family member’s speech, your vows, or the first dance, you won’t miss out on any part of the day captured when you watch the video from your wedding.

A professional videographer will make sure that the finished product is concise (without leaving out anything important from the day), perfectly edited, and captures the tone and feel of the day.

Photographers and videographers work together to ensure each and every moment is captured in the best way possible. They truly do complement each other, and you can see this when you take a look at any wedding photo + video combo!

3. Ability to Share

When you choose professional photos and videography, you’ll end up with an amazing product that you are proud and excited to share with others. In most cases, not everyone you love can attend your wedding (especially in the pandemic era!) This means some close family and friends won’t get to experience your wedding day firsthand.

photos allow you share candid moments with those who couldn’t attend

However, you can send photos and videos to your family! You can professional print pictures and mail them, or even simply send a link to your photographer’s portfolio to share with the important people in your life who weren’t able to be with you on your wedding day.

4. Professionals Know How To Blend In

Hiring a team of professionals, instead of just asking a friend or family member to take photos or videos for you, ensures that there are no disruptions to your day. Professional photographers and videographers know how to blend in and stay out the way!

Professionals ensure they blend in and capture natural moments

As a professional photographer, I know how important it is for couples to feel absolutely comfortable on their big day. We know how to get the best shots without causing a scene or making anyone feel uncomfortable. We work our hardest to simply blend in with the background while still getting the best results for you.

5. Professional Videography & Photography Is Worth It!

Narrowing down your wedding budget can be stressful - I know, I’ve been there! There is just so much think about and consider, it can easily feel overwhelming. However, couples who choose to work with professional videographers and photographers say that it’s more than worth it.

It’s really important to remember that aside from your wedding rings, photos and videos of your wedding are the ONLY tangible thing that you get to take away from the day (aside from your marriage, of course!)

A professional photographer and videographer is also worth the investment because they have all the right gear, they’re able to dedicate all the time required to not only take your photos or video, but also edit it all afterwards.

There is a lot of planning that goes into this all as well, and when you work with the professionals, you can leave it all to them! Plus, you will often get complimentary engagement sessions, which means you’ll save on costs and both your wedding and engagement photos will have the same vibe!

I had the honour of capturing Candace and Reuben’s wedding, and here is what they had to say about choosing to document their wedding through photography:

“In such a chaotic year, you gave me as a bride one of the most priceless gifts. The ability to relive my wedding day through photos and see my family and closest friends together under the stars. Over the past 4 weeks I’ve been disappointed in myself because I forgot a lot of what our day entailed (a feeling I’m told is normal) and was hard on myself because I felt like i wasn’t “present”. However, looking back on these gorgeous portraits, I could see that I was wrong. I see myself smiling, together, in the moment, and laughing. Just pure joy. And even in the darkest of times, you were able to bring Reuben and I that youthful carefree joy again. Thank you so much for you work. It’s truly beautiful and encompasses who we are as a couple. I can’t wait to work with you again. All our love to you!”

Choosing a high-quality, professional photographer and videographer can seem like a lot at first. But when you think about what you are getting for the price, it is truly an investment.

Wedding photography is worth the investment!

If you need to narrow down your budget, there are so many ways you can do so without sacrificing the amazing memories you’ll get from the day. For example, choosing in-season florals will not only look amazing, but will easily cut the cost of your floral arrangements.

Many couples also choose to shop second-hand for decor or even outfits and attire. You’ll never be able to tell when something is second-hand, but you will be able to always see the difference between professional and lower-quality photos or videos.

Tony + Clare’s Walper Hotel Wedding

I think one of the best ways to understand why wedding photography and videography is so important is to simply see for your yourself. I loved capturing the wedding of Tony and Clare at the stunning WALPER HOTEL.

Their pictures told an awesome story, starting from the early morning prep to late night party. Check out some of their wedding pictures below and see their incredible video from BONSAI CREATIVE, the videography company I collab with! Videography and photography perfectly complement each other - they both work to tell the whole story from start to finish.

Tony and Clare’s wedding was an amazing evening full of delicious food, a cake that may or may not have collapsed, and a lot of partying. It truly was an honour to be a part of this special day, and the combination of wedding photography and videography perfectly captured each and every moment.

Candace + Reuben’s Niagara-On-The-Lake Wedding

Candace and Reuben celebrated their wedding day in Niagara-On-The-Lake at Kurtz Orchards after their original plans changed and then changed again and again due to the pandemic. However, they rolled with everything that came their way and celebrated their special day surrounded by their close family and friends. It was an honour to capture their wedding day!
