Sadie and Derek had one of the most amazing and elaborate wedding plans I had ever heard of! When they first reached out to me and Bonsai Creative, they actually planned to have a surprise wedding. With Sadie’s sister in on the surprise, they planned to tell their guests that a surprise engagement party for the couple was in the works - but instead, their guests would be surprised with a wedding!

However, like many other 2020 and 2021 couples, plans had to change, and change again and again due to the pandemic and meeting restrictions. Instead of a surprise wedding, Sadie and Derek called over 100 people who would have been on their guest list a week before the “engagement party” and explained the whole thing - the engagement party was really their wedding, and due to COVID they would have to cut back on their guest list but wanted to let them know and wished everyone could celebrate with them.

Their smaller-than-planned but still gorgeous and intimate wedding took place on their property with about 50 guests in total. We stopped by the beach for some pictures, as well as the furniture store that Sadie and her mom owns to say hello to some close coworkers. Then, back to their property for the ceremony, which was beautiful and emotional and looked completely perfect! The night ended by gathering under a cozy tent and dancing under the stars.

Even though the wedding was not what they originally had planned, it was still such special and heartfelt day. At one point Sadie shared with me that their wedding turned out so much better than anything they could have ever planned. I felt honoured to have been able to capture it for this lovely couple.
